Maddie and Madison takes intellectual property seriously and acts quickly on valid copyright complaints made under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Sending us a takedown notice
For a notice to be actionable, please include all of the following:
- which copyrighted work you say is being infringed;
- where the offending material sits, with the exact URL(s);
- how to reach you — name, address, phone and email;
- a statement that you genuinely believe the use isn't authorised;
- a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information you've given is accurate;
- proof that you own the rights or are authorised to act for the owner;
- your signature, written or electronic.
Leave out any of these and we may not be able to act on the notice.
A word of caution
Knowingly claiming infringement that isn't real can make you liable under 17 U.S.C. §512(f) for the resulting damages, costs and legal fees. If you're not certain, speak to a lawyer before you file.
Disputing a removal
If something of yours was taken down and you believe that was a mistake, you can file a counter-notice. Include your signature, identify the removed material, state under penalty of perjury that it came down in error, and agree to the jurisdiction of the appropriate federal court. We may put the material back within 10–14 business days, unless the party who complained takes the matter to court first.
Repeat infringers
Where it's warranted, we close the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe.
